Loading Shovel Operator – LB Silica Sand Quarry
Location: Leighton Buzzard
Pay rate: Competitive based on experience
Job Summary
The Loading Shovel Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of loading shovel machinery within the Quarry. The role involves loading materials, feeding processing plants, maintaining stockpiles and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Operate loading shovel equipment safely and efficiently.
Loading of materials into hoppers, crushers, screening plants, and haulage vehicles.
Maintain stockpiles and manage material movement around the quarry site.
Carry out daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks.
Report machinery faults, hazards, incidents, and near misses to supervisors.
Follow all quarry health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Keep work areas clean, organised, and hazard-free.
Assist with general quarry and plant duties when required.
Work closely with site operators, drivers, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth production operations.
Requirements
Previous experience operating a loading shovel in a quarry, aggregates, construction or mining environment.
Valid CPCS, NPORS, or MPQC Loading Shovel certification.
Good understanding of quarry safety procedures and heavy plant operations.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and time-management skills.
Full UK driving licence preferred.
Desirable Skills
Experience with quarry processing plants or wash plants.
Basic mechanical maintenance knowledge.
Experience operating additional heavy machinery such as excavators or dumpers.
