Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to lead the delivery of earthworks and drainage works on a major civil engineering project in Coventry. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, manage engineering activities on site and ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
The role requires a proactive individual with strong experience in bulk earthworks, drainage installation, setting out, quality assurance, subcontractor management and engineering documentation.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the engineering delivery of bulk earthworks, cut and fill operations, drainage systems, and associated infrastructure works.
· Manage and supervise Site Engineers and survey teams.
· Review construction drawings, specifications, and technical information.
· Ensure accurate setting out and surveying activities using GPS and robotic total stations.
· Manage quality assurance processes, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), material approvals, and inspection records.
· Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including RFIs, NCRs, as-built records and handover documentation.
· Coordinate subcontractors and ensure works are completed in accordance with programme requirements.
· Monitor earthworks quantities, cut/fill balances and material movements.
· Liaise with the design team, client representatives, utilities, and commercial team to resolve technical issues.
· Support planning activities and provide engineering input into construction sequencing.
· Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, project specifications, and Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
· Carry out temporary works inspections where appropriate and ensure compliance with approved designs.
· Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous improvement across the engineering team.
Essential Requirements
· Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
· Minimum 5 years' experience delivering earthworks and drainage projects within the civil engineering sector.
· Strong knowledge of bulk earthworks, drainage installation, highways, and infrastructure construction.
· Experience with setting out using Leica or Trimble survey equipment.
· Good understanding of QA procedures, ITPs, and engineering documentation.
· Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
· Experience managing subcontractors and site engineering teams.
· Excellent communication and organisational skills.
· Full UK Driving Licence.
· Valid CSCS Card.
Desirable Qualifications
· Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (ICE) or working towards.
· SMSTS qualification.
· Temporary Works Supervisor or Coordinator training.
· First Aid at Work qualification.
· NRSWA Supervisor qualification.
· Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Trimble Business Centre.
· Knowledge of NEC contracts.
